In need of secondary help, the Carolina Panthers made the decision Thursday morning to ink veteran safety Eric Reid to a one-year deal for the rest of the 2018 season.

In response to that move, former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick took to Twitter to congratulate his former teammate on the next chapter of his NFL career with the Panthers.

During their latter portion of their time together with the 49ers, Reid and Kaepernick were together in their stance of kneeling during the national anthem to bring more attention to the social injustices that occur in the United States. Reid stayed true to form in that stance over the last couple of years, which contributed to him being out of a job for the entire offseason despite his clear talent as a game-changer in the secondary.

The 49ers reportedly made a run at bringing Reid back into the fold before the safety decided on Carolina.

The Panthers chose to move past all of the outside noise to bring in Reid to bring much-needed stability to that part of their defense. This is a chance for him to show that he has much to offer on the field, which could extend his NFL career far beyond this season.  In his career, he has started in all but one of his first 70 games while racking up 375 tackles, 10 interceptions, 34 passes defensed, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries.

Beyond that, what also makes this interesting is that Reid is still a part of Kaepernick's collusion case against the NFL. It has made this situation that much more intriguing given that he had strongly believed that his social stances had been a factor in keeping him out of the NFL.
