The Carolina Panthers made a splash this offseason with the safety pairing of Eric Reid and Tre Boston. It appears the defense has already started to reap the benefits of their rapport.

Reid became an integral part of this group during the 2018 campaign. According to Albert Breer of the MMQB, he has now emerged as a bonafide leader on defense:

Eric Reid has emerged as a real leader for the secondary, and the hope is his presence helps Tre Boston be the playmaker at FS the Panthers think he can be in his return to Carolina. Forcing turnovers was a weak spot last year, and the hope is Boston addresses that.

The report stems from Reid's displeasure regarding the lackluster practice had by the secondary. As a result, he spurred the rest of the defensive backs to get some extra work in on the JUGS machine afterward.

While it may seem minor, it is the little things that will go a long way in helping turn things around for the secondary.

It is encouraging to see that Reid has made himself rather comfortable in Carolina. Of course, it is hardly surprising considering he is no stranger to taking the lead. He was one of the first players to take a knee during the national anthem and has remained an advocate against the social injustices going on today.

While the veteran indicates his stance has warranted some extra, unwanted attention from the NFL front office, it is safe to say that the Panthers are happy to have made the investment in him as their leader in the secondary.
