Greg Olsen has been one of the best tight ends in the NFL for quite some time now. The last three seasons have not gone to plan for Olsen though. Injuries have slowed him down considerably, and the stats just aren't the same.

Still though, Olsen can put up solid numbers and is a great veteran presence to have in the locker room. It appears the Carolina Panthers felt he wasn't an asset they needed anymore though.

At first, it was seen as a mutual parting of ways. Now, Greg Olsen is saying it wasn't as mutual as a lot of people thought.

The gist of that is pretty simple. Olsen was ready to return to the Panthers. Carolina however, seemed to feel otherwise.

It makes sense that Carolina would want to move on. By all indications, they are going to try and rebuild, with Christian McCaffrey as the obvious star to build around. Therefore, keeping a 34-year-old (will be 35 to start next season) tight end who has appeared in 30 games over the last three years makes little sense.

For Greg Olsen, he showed a lot of loyalty wanting to stick around despite the direction of the team being unclear. There will be a lot of teams showing interest in the tight end, so he should find a new home soon.
