The Carolina Panthers are already without Cam Newton, so the last thing they need is another quarterback going down to injury.

It's kind of a bad news, good news situation: the bad news is that Kyle Allen is dealing with a shoulder injury. The good news is that he was a full participant in practice on Wednesday, an indication that the issue is minor, per Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.

Allen is coming off of a so-so performance in a Week 9 win over the Tennessee Titans in which he completed 17 of his 32 throws for 232 yards, a couple of touchdowns and an interception.

The 23-year-old stepped into the starting role in Week 3 to relieve Newton, who has been nursing a foot injury. Since becoming the starter, Allen has thrown for 1,291 yards, nine touchdowns and four picks while completing 60.7 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 87.8.

Most importantly, the Panthers have gone 4-1 and have vaulted themselves into the NFC playoff picture since his insertion under center.

Allen, who played his collegiate football at both Texas A&M and Houston, went undrafted but landed with Carolina as a free agent shortly after.

He played in two games and made one start during his rookie campaign, completing 20 of his 31 passes for 266 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Due to the Panthers' winning ways since Allen took over for Newton, momentum has been building toward Allen becoming the permanent starter moving forward, which would obviously signal the end of Newton's run in Carolina.

The Panthers will take on the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.
