Carolina Panthers wide receiver Torrey Smith has agreed to take a $2 million pay cut for the 2019 campaign, according to Field Yates of ESPN.

Smith was originally scheduled to earn a non-guaranteed salary of $5 million, but now, he will be making $2 million in base salary and $1 million in bonuses. The move creates $2 million in cap space for the Panthers.

Smith is coming off a 2018 campaign in which he played 11 games and logged just 17 catches for 190 yards and a couple of touchdowns.

The 30-year-old, who played collegiate football at the University of Maryland, was originally selected by the Baltimore Ravens in the second round (58th pick overall) of the 2011 NFL Draft.

He had a very impressive rookie year in Baltimore, hauling in 50 receptions for 841 yards and seven touchdowns. He posted similar numbers the following year, catching 49 passes for 855 yards and eight scores and helping the Ravens win a Super Bowl title.

Smith then broke out in 2013, snaring 65 balls for 1,128 yards while reaching the end zone four times in what was the season of his career.

Since then, Smith has been on a steady decline.

He spent one more year in Baltimore in 2014, registering 49 catches for 767 yards and 11 touchdowns. Smith then made his way to the San Francisco 49ers, where he resided for two seasons and posted very underwhelming results.

The Colonial Beach, Va., native then went on to join the Philadelphia Eagles in 2017, but his role was rather limited in the Eagles' Super Bowl season, finishing with just 36 receptions for 430 yards and a pair of scores.
