Shortly following the Miami Dolphins' decision to place the franchise tag on star wide receiver Jarvis Landry, the team has informed him that he can explore the trade market for potential landing spots. There are several teams in need of help at the wide receiver position where he could effectively fill that role.

This could foreseeably lead to action on this front picking up significantly over the next few days as the free agency period nears closer. According to Joseph Person of the Charlotte Observer, the Carolina Panthers are not expected to one of those teams looking to make a push to acquire the 25-year-old.

The Panthers currently possess a young receiving core that is headed by Devin Funchess being the primary target of the bunch. However, there is plenty of unproven talent alongside him that could lead to the team being active in upgrading the position to provide Cam Newton with more weapons to throw to next season aside from Funchess and Pro Bowl tight end Greg Olsen.

Carolina is currently projected to have just over $27.6 million at their disposal to spend in free agency and the draft. The had recently made some cuts to their roster letting go of proven players in defensive Charles Johnson and Kurt Coleman to push them to that amount of financial flexibility. This was likely used to help their efforts in bringing back some of their key players in free agency such as Jonathan Stewart, kicker Graham Gano, defensive end Julius Peppers, and defensive tackle Star Lotulelei.

Granted, Landry is one of the most talented wide receivers in the league coming off a career-best campaign where he had a career-high 112 catches for 987 receiving yards, his projected salary on the franchise tag of $16.2 million for the 2018 season is a bit high for the Panthers to commit to bringing aboard at this point. Ultimately, Carolina could look elsewhere for wide receiver talent at a lower rate if they believe they need to address that position on the team.
