Houston Rockets guard Patrick Beverly may not see the team's opening game due to his ailing knee.

Beverly has not played much of the preseason due to a lingering knee issue, and it may require surgery.

According to ESPN’s Calvin Watkins, coach Mike D'antoni is looking to make other plans now that Beverly is down.

He told reporters that he is not anticipating Beverly making the season opener against the Los Angeles Lakers.

Beverly is one of the team's best perimeter defenders and it would add to the pressure for James Harden to perform on the defensive end even more if he is out.

Eric Gordon would likely take up Beverly's playing time, but isn't exactly a good replacement for his perimeter defense.

The team has not made its final evaluation, but losing Beverly will affect the team defensively in the short term.
