Netflix's three-part series “Killer Inside: The Mind of Aaron Hernandez,” released on Jan. 15, dived into the case of the late New England Patriots tight end two years after he killed himself inside a prison cell.

A key part of the series was Hernandez's sexuality. Hernandez's fiancee, Shayanna Jenkins, said in an interview with ABC's “Good Morning America” that she did not know he has bisexual. She also said that if she knew, that would not change anything. Hernandez, even to her, was a hard man to read — one that let very few into his mind.

“Although I have a child with Aaron, I still can't tell you how he was feeling inside,” Jenkins said, via the Associated Press. “No one can.”

Hernandez killed himself in 2017 while serving a life sentence for killing his friend Odin Lloyd in 2013. He was accused of other murders before then. Just days before his death, he had been acquitted of most charges in a separate double-murder.

Doctors found CTE (chronic traumatic encephalopathy) in Hernandez after his death. The disease is associated with concussions and several former NFL players have been linked to it. CTE can cause memory loss, depression, suicide, confusion, aggression, anxiety, and a loss of impulse control.

The Patriots drafted Hernandez in the fourth round of the 2010 NFL Draft out of Florida. He signed a five-year, $39.58 million contract extension with New England in 2012. He later forfeited much of the then-record breaking contract.

In three seasons with the Patriots, Hernandez tallied 175 receptions for 1,956 yards and 18 touchdowns. He died at the age of 27.
