The New England Patriots' receiving corps is a major question mark entering this season, so even though he didn't play at all during his rookie year in 2018 after landing on the injured reserve list, Braxton Berrios has a shot of seeing some action.

The second-year wide receiver logged three catches for 45 yards during the Patriots' 31-3 win in their preseason opener against the Detroit Lions on Thursday night, and on Friday, head coach Bill Belichick discussed the improvements that Berrios has made:

“I think his improvement has come from his training, understanding the offense, and timing work with the quarterbacks,” Belichick said, according to Doug Kyed of NESN. “Those are things that he didn’t have as much of an opportunity to do last year, especially early in the season, in training camp, and then, later on, he was able to train more. But, he still wasn’t able to work with the team, so this year he’s been able to do all of those and there’s no question that that’s helped him, and helped our team.”

Berrios, who played his collegiate football at the University of Miami, was originally selected by New England in the sixth round (210th pick overall) of the 2018 NFL Draft.

He spent four seasons at Miami, totaling 100 receptions for 1,175 yards and 14 touchdowns.

The Pats lost several key members of their receiving corps this offseason, as tight end Rob Gronkowski retired and wideouts Chris Hogan and Cordarrelle Patterson departed via free agency. Also, Josh Gordon is in the middle of a suspension.
