No team has been affected more by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic than the New England Patriots with the league-high number of players that that have opted out of playing in the 2020 NFL season. However, their losses were somewhat alleviated by center David Andrews opting to move forward with his comeback.

Despite missing the entire 2019 season while dealing with blood clots in his lung, Andrews announced his plans to return to the field this year. Although there may be some concern with his respiratory condition, he has since doubled down on his decision to play, via NFL Update:

“My choice has been made. It's something we feel comfortable with. I’m excited for the opportunity coming up.”

Andrews' career was considered to be in jeopardy after being diagnosed with pulmonary embolism last summer. While the his condition may make him high-risk case, it seems he is comfortable with the safety protocols that have been established by the NFL and NFLPA for the duration of training camp.

Having to sit out two consecutive years in the prime of his career could have led to some uncertainty with Andrews' future in New England. This is amplified by the fact that he is entering the final year of his current deal.

Though it may take some time to shake off the rust, his presence should help serve as a stabilizing factor for quarterback Cam Newton under center thanks to his experience as a tow-time Super Bowl champ. Regardless, Andrews' status will certainly be something for the Patriots to monitor closely throughout the course of the 2020 campaign.
