Demaryius Thomas signed with the New England Patriots this offseason and many thought that he could be exactly what the team needed. After Rob Gronkowski chose to retire following another Super Bowl win, the Patriots were left with quite a few questions on the offensive side of the football.

Unfortunately for Thomas, it appears that his roster spot is not safe at this point in time. Coming off of a torn Achilles won't be an easy task and the Patriots have quite a few options to work with at receiver.

According to a report shared by Pro Football Talk, Thomas may be a long shot to make the Patriots' final roster.

Since signing Thomas, the Patriots have drafted Harry and signed Inman. That naturally will make it harder for Thomas to make the team — especially since he’ll need to be high enough on the roster to avoid the special-teams obligations that usually fall to the fourth, fifth, and sixth receivers on the depth chart.

New England has added quite a few wide receivers this offseason. Inman and Harry both seem very likely to make the final roster and of course Julian Edelman is still around. Thomas used to be a star, but at this point in time he appears to have an uphill battle to make the team.

It will be interesting to see what Bill Belichick ends up doing this offseason. Thomas could still make an impact if he fully recovers from the Achilles tear. He will certainly be a name to keep an eye on this year in training camp and preseason action.

Expect to hear plenty more about Thomas before everything is said and done. If he fails to make the roster in New England, it wouldn't be surprising to see another team pick him up.
