NFL Network's NFL Top 100 list tends to spark controversy in every iteration. Whether it be an injured player ranked too a high, a promising rookie unranked, or a legend too low, there tend to be disagreements with the list. It's not just fans, or talking heads; players join the fun in the summer tradition of dispute.

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees — who finished No. 2 behind Aaron Donald — disagrees with his ranking. Not because it's too low, because it's too high. Specifically, Brees disagrees with being ranked over New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.

In 2018, Brady didn't win MVP or earn an All-Pro nod, but he won his sixth ring. An honor only he holds in the NFL record books.

Brees said on the Dan Patrick Show after being asked who the second-best player is, behind Donald:

“Well, how do you not put the guy with six Super Bowl rings in there at No. 2?”

Brees went on to mention how one should view the top portion of the list:

“Here's the thing, while I appreciate the voting put me at No. 2, I think, even if you're getting in the top ten, how do you differentiate who is in front of who at that stage. You can probably validate any of those guys in the top ten for being No. 2 or No.3 or top four.”

Brees fell ahead of some notable quarterbacks including Brady, Patrick Mahomes, and Aaron Rodgers. He did so, though, in exemplary fashion, as he was second in MVP voting and broke the NFL all-time career passing yardage record.
