New England Patriots fan hate to think about the possibility, but even they have to know that Tom Brady can’t play forever. Right now, they don’t have a potential quarterback of the future on the roster. So, if they don’t draft someone they will have to pick up someone in free agency.

That someone could very well be former Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel.

Manziel has been on the comeback trail in recent weeks. He took a step in the right direction by throwing in front of scouts at his alma matter’s Pro Day Tuesday. According to reports, he threw well and did so last week at San Diego State’s as well.

Why does this matter to Patriots fans? It appears that the team’s reps met with Manziel before and after Tuesday’s workout.

It remains to be seen if Manziel has any kind of NFL-caliber game. He didn’t exactly play well his last stint in the league. But if he were to sign with the Patriots, he would have one of the best players to look to as an example. It wouldn’t hurt for him to be under the thumb of Bill Belichick either.

Just because they talked with him doesn’t mean they have any interest in signing him. Manziel’s first pre-draft meeting was with the Patriots.

But what about his reputation and all the media attention that would come with signing Manziel? Belichick proved he could handle it when Tim Tebow was with the team. Handling Manziel’s will be no problem either.

That is, if they actually sign him (which they probably will not).
