Cornerback Jonathan Jones has signed a one-year restricted free-agent tender with the New England Patriots, according to Mike Reiss of ESPN.com.

Jones played in all 16 games with the Patriots this past season, finishing with 56 tackles, 1.5 sacks, three interceptions, a forced fumble and seven passes defended.

The 25-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Auburn University, went undrafted but ended up signing with New England in May 2016.

He went on to appear in all 16 contests during his rookie campaign, primarily playing on special teams and logging six tackles, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

Then, the following season, Jones' role grew, as he participated in all 16 games and totaled 36 tackles, a sack, a pick, a fumble recovery and eight passes defended. However, in the Divisional Round of those playoffs, Jones suffered an ankle injury and was placed on the injured reserve list, ultimately missing the Patriots' Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Pats are coming off of a 2018 campaign in which they won 11 games and captured the AFC East division title, marking their 10th straight division crown. New England landed a first-round bye and then defeated the Los Angeles Chargers in the Divisional Round of the playoffs.

The Patriots then topped the Kansas City Chiefs in an overtime thriller in the AFC Championship Game before defeating the Los Angeles Rams for their sixth Super Bowl championship.

The Pats have had a bit of a slow offseason, as they have lost numerous key contributors and have not made any major moves in free agency, but based on their history, it would be silly to doubt the Patriots going into 2019.
