Josh Gordon is expected to play at some point later on in the 2019 season. According to ESPN's Josina Anderson, Gordon expects to be ready in one to two weeks. Subsequently, he will be released off of the injured reserve.

The Patriots placed Gordon on the injured reserve earlier in the week. They gave him a minor designation for his placement, meaning they have to release him when he is healthy.

If New England were to release him after Tuesday's trade deadline, Gordon would have to go through waivers. This is the most likely option, as the Patriots are not likely too keen on releasing Gordon outright, where he would be free to choose a team and potentially a rival or AFC foe.

Gordon was playing through a left knee injury that sidelined him during Week 6's win over the New York Giants. He missed Week 7's win over the New York Jets altogether with the injury.

The Patriots traded for Gordon during the 2018 regular season after a rumor leaked that he was struggling to stay sober as a member of the Cleveland Browns. He played in 11 games for New England in 2018 before the NFL gave him an indefinite suspension for violating the terms of his conditional reinstatement under the NFL drug policy.

The NFL conditionally reinstated Gordon in August. He returned to the team and did not receive any suspensions or fines. In 17 games with the Patriots, Gordon had 60 receptions for 1,007 yards and four touchdowns.

Gordon is a free agent after the 2019 season.
