The New England Patriots will once again be playing in the Super Bowl on Sunday afternoon in Atlanta.

However, with the heralded Patriots now gearing up to take on the surging Los Angeles Rams, veteran wide receiver Josh Gordon will not be on the field for the AFC East franchise's third consecutive Super Bowl appearance.

Troubled from his days as a member of the Cleveland Browns, Gordon was notably traded to the Patriots midway through the 2018-19 campaign. However, Gordon did not remain on the field for long as he once again found himself disciplined by the league en route to receiving an indefinite suspension from the NFL for violating the terms of his conditional reinstatement.

Though his time in New England has been brief, it seems that Gordon still struggled mightily, similarly to his days with the Browns.

“Gordon, who remains indefinitely suspended by the NFL for repeated violations of the substance abuse policy, will watch Super Bowl LIII from an in-patient treatment facility in Gainesville, Florida,” writes Ian Rapoport of NFL.com. “During his time in New England, he went through some of his darkest times, according to sources.

“By the time his suspension was official, his issues were real, serious and related to far more than just marijuana. Good progress is being made now, sources say, and while Gordon wants to play football, it's clear that recovery is his first priority.”

Even with Gordon forced to watch from afar, the Patriots managed to reach yet another title game with the Rams now looming.
