Back in 2009, the New England Patriots used a seventh-round draft pick on a little-known Kent State quarterback named Julian Edelman.

Of course, with Tom Brady under center, the Patriots ended up moving Edelman to wide receiver, and the rest is history. But Edelman wasn't even sure New England would draft him:

“Well the Patriots came out. They worked me out three times,” Edelman told HOT 97. “They worked me out with the running backs coach, a special teams coach and the receivers coach. After that, usually teams bring you in for a visit. That’s how the routine goes — you work out for a team, then they bring your in for a visit.

“All the teams I worked out for invited me for a visit, except the Patriots. So I was like, ‘Well, it looks like I’m going to be a Miami Dolphin.’ I guess they were trying to keep it under the radar or something, but they ended up coming out of the woodwork.”

Edelman ended up playing in 11 games during his rookie campaign, logging 37 catches for 359 yards and a touchdown. However, he mainly served as a special teamer over the first four years of his career.

He finally broke out as a receiver in 2013, when he hauled in 105 receptions for 1,056 yards and six scores.

Since then, Edelman has been an integral piece in the Pats' offense, and he is coming off of a 2018 campaign in which he caught 74 passes for 850 yards and six scores.

He also went on to win Super Bowl MVP back in February after catching 10 passes for 141 yards in the Patriots' 13-3 win over the Los Angeles Rams.
