After missing all of last season New England Patriots quarterback Julian Edelman was just happy to be back with the boys on the field.

“It just was fun, the nerves were juiced and I was just excited to get out there and get to play football,” Edelman said following the 26-17 win via Boston Herald.

Tom Brady didn't play on Thursday night so it was Brian Hoyer playing with the first team and he didn't throw one ball towards Edelman in the 15 snaps that Edelman was on the field. That didn't seem to bother him though as he was just trying to take the next step in his recovery.

“It was just good to get out there and hit guys ahd have guys aroun you cutting on turf,” he said. “It was definitely a fun step.”

This preseason is going to be very important for Edelman because after the preseason is over he won't be eligible to play again until week five. Edelman is suspended for the first four games of the season after violating the NFL PED's policy. Edelman did appeal the suspension saying the NFL made mistakes during the testing process but that appeal was denied.

Edelman has tried to downplay the expectations for this season saying that he doesn't feel like he quite has his legs under him. When he does get back on the field there is no question that the expectations will be high and with Brady under center, he should get no shortage of targets.
