New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman will undergo more tests on Monday on a rib injury that knocked him out of his team's win over the New York Jets on Sunday, according to Michael Giardi of NFL Network. Edelman's X-rays came back negative.

Edelman caught seven passes for 62 yards and a touchdown before suffering the injury during the second quarter.

On the season overall, he has hauled in 17 receptions for 196 yards and a score.

The 33-year-old is coming off of a 2018 campaign in which he played 12 games, missing four due to a PED suspension. During the time he was on the field, he snared 74 balls for 850 yards and six touchdowns.

Edelman, who played his collegiate football as a quarterback at Kent State, was originally selected by the Patriots in the seventh round (232nd pick overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft.

It wasn't until Edelman's fifth year in the league in 2013 that he finally became a significant part of the offense, as he registered 105 catches for 1,056 yards and six scores that season.

Since then, the Redwood City, Ca. native has been a staple in New England's passing attack, posting another 1,000-yard campaign in 2016 when he hauled in 98 receptions for 1,106 yards while reaching the end zone three times.

He missed all of 2017 with a torn ACL.

Should Edelman be sidelined for an extended period of time, it would certainly be a big blow to the Patriots passing game, as he has long been Tom Brady's favorite target.

The Patriots improved to 3-0 with their victory over the Jets and will head on the road to battle the Buffalo Bills next Sunday.
