Lance Kendricks was sitting at home this offseason, thinking he wasn't going to be playing football in 2019. That was until he received a call from the New England Patriots.

After signing, Kendricks said it was a “no-brainer” to join New England. For nearly two decades, the Patriots have become a model franchise in all of the major sports.

“This is a special place, obviously,” Kendricks told reporters on Saturday. “This is a championship team. They know how to play football. They know how to win games. They know how to do it the right way, so it’s a no-brainer.”

The veteran tight end pointed out that the Patriots were the only team to show interest in him. And by the looks of it, the Patriots could absolutely use Kendricks as they have a void left at the tight end position.

Earlier this offseason, Rob Gronkowski announced his retirement after nine seasons with the organization. That seemingly leaves some huge shoes to fill in the Patriots offense.

Currently, Matt LaCosse is expected to get the nod, but there's no guarantee he holds onto the job. Plus, Ben Watson will earn some snaps once he returns from his four-game suspension.

Therefore, Kendricks is going to have to work hard to get the offense and the system down. Although, Kendricks spent his rookie season with the St. Louis Rams who had Josh McDaniels at the time.

Over the past two seasons, Kendricks was with the Green Bay Packers. He was seldom used as he caught just 37 passes in those two seasons.

Catching passes from Tom Brady is definitely better than sitting on your couch at home. When Kendricks received a call from New England, it was an easy decision to join the roster.
