The defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots have agreed to restructure Marcus Cannon's deal, according to NFL Network's Michael Silver.

Cannon has played for the Patriots for eight seasons, playing on a total of three Super Bowl teams. Originally a five-year $32.5 million extension signed back in 2016, the newly amended contract guarantees him $4.5 million in salary for the upcoming season. The move comes in conjunction with the retirement of offensive lineman J.J Dielman, a center who never played a down for New England.

Cannon started for the Patriots throughout the previous season's playoffs that ended with a title over the Los Angeles Rams. His 13 starts over the course of the 2018 season are the most he's had since 2016.

Cannon was drafted by the Patriots in 2011 and sporadically started for the team until the 2016 season , another year where the franchise ended their campaign with a Lombardi Trophy. That year, Cannon earned second-team All-Pro honors. Derailed by an injury in December of 2017, he returned to form the following year.

The team has also added incentives that could increase the value of his deal, according to Silver. Cannon, who primarily plays right tackle, was originally slated to make $5.5 million in salary and $6.15 million overall in 2019.

Cannon has played eight years in the NFL, all with the Patriots and all under Belichick. At 31-years-old, he has two years of service remaining on his contract.
