The New England Patriots had to act quickly to find a kicker ahead of Sunday's game against the Washington Redskins. It seems as if they have come to a decision, with New England signing veteran kicker Mike Nugent, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.

On Wednesday, the Patriots decided to place Stephen Gostkowski on season-ending injured reserve after receiving hip surgery. Therefore, the team elected to bring in a few kickers to try out for the recently vacated kicker position.

Altogether, New England brought in Younghoe Koo, Kai Forbath, and Nugent. Ultimately, they chose to go with the longest-tenured kicker of the bunch in Nugent.

Prior to Gostkowski landing on the IR, the longtime placekicker was having struggles putting the ball through the uprights. Gostkowski was able to convert on seven of his eight field-goal attempts. But at the same time, he led the NFL in missed extra-point tries with four in the first month of the season.

Nevertheless, the team will now turn to Nugent to be a hopeful replacement for Gostkowski. Upon signing with the Patriots, Nugent is joining the eighth team in his 15-year career.

Over the course of his NFL career, the former Cincinnati Bengals kicker has been close to automatic on extra points, making 363 of his 377 career attempts. On the other hand, Nugent has also made 253 of his 311 field-goal tries (81.4%).

The last time Nugent kicked was for the Oakland Raiders in 2018. In his three games with the Raiders, Nugent made all six of his field-goal attempts and missed one of his five extra-point attempts.
