As great as quarterback Tom Brady has been for nearly the last two decades, the New England Patriots are well aware that his days under center are numbered. As a result, it seems the Patriots are starting to look for his potential successor.

Fortunately, the 2018 NFL Draft is projected to be one of the deepest quarterback classes in recent years. However, New England currently has their eyes set on a couple of smaller fish in the pond.

According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the Patriots have worked out Richmond quarterback Kyle Lauletta and Washington State quarterback Luke Falk:

With an obvious need for a developmental QB behind Tom Brady, the Patriots have quietly been conducting private workouts leading up to the draft. Among those on the list: Richmond’s Kyle Lauletta and Washington State’s Luke Falk, per sources. Both potential Day 2 picks.

Lauletta enjoyed a stellar college career after finishing as the school's all-time leader in passing yards (10,465) and touchdowns (73) touchdowns. However, he remained largely under the radar up until his tremendous performance in this year's Senior Bowl. He threw for 198 yards and three touchdowns en route to the game's MVP honors.

Falk concluded his career at Washington State by becoming the most accomplished passer in Pac-12 history. He finished as the conference leader in passing yards (14,481), touchdowns (119), and completion percentage (68.3). That said, it seems head coach Bill Belichick is intrigued by what Falk can bring to the table.

The Patriots seemingly had a solid contingency plan in backup quarterback Jimmy Garappolo until he was traded to the San Francisco 49ers amidst all the reported turmoil last season. Fortunately, New England is more than capable of finding another signal-caller to develop while Brady concludes his illustrious career.
