Former New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski is amused by all the Tom Brady free agency drama.

While Gronkowski himself has not been in touch with Brady recently, he noted it will be “fun” to see how the process plays out. Gronk even mused he would like to see Brady move to the XFL (via Henry McKenna of USA TODAY).

“Yeah, and it makes it interesting. It does make it fun,” Gronkowski told reporters, via WBZ’s Scott Sullivan. “‘Where is he going?’ I understand people stress out over it, but if you look at it the other way it’s kind of fun. ‘He’s going there one day and he’s going to another team the next day.’ Man, it’s crazy.”

“I was hoping he would end up in the XFL with a He Hate Me jersey.”

Gronkowski announced his retirement last March, and it is clear Brady struggled without his favorite target. Gronkowski was named First Team All-Pro four times, and he topped the 1,000-yard mark four times as well, leading the NFL with 17 touchdown receptions in 2011.

But Brady had a tough time moving the ball through the air in Gronkoswki's absence this past season. While Brady threw for more than 4,000 yards, he posted the lowest total quarterback rating of his career while averaging the fewest yards per pass attempt since 2002.

Brady reportedly spoke with Patriots head coach Bill Belichick over the phone on Tuesday, though the discussions apparently did not lead anywhere.

There is a very real possibility Brady will don another uniform for the first time in his career in 2020. For his past, Gronkowski is simply enjoying the ride.
