There has been plenty of speculation regarding the future of New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski heading into the offseason. The Patriots star announced he was considering retirement following New England's loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LII.

Early reports even suggested that he was considering other ventures as an actor and entertainer. However, according to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, Gronkowski is expected to return for the 2018 season:

The expectation is that Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski will return for 2018 after pondering his future, I’m told. He may never make a grand announcement, but the belief is entertainment opportunities (acting WWE) will wait.

At first, Gronkowski's comments were deemed to be the impulsive response to a disappointing loss in the Super Bowl. However, recent reports suggested that he had been considering retirement during training camp prior to the 2017 season. The prospect of stepping away from football has seemingly been on the back of his mind in recent years.

Gronk's approach to each season should come as no surprise considering his track record with severe injuries. There is no doubt that when healthy, he is arguably the most dominant pass-catcher in the NFL, let alone its best tight end. That said, one critical injury after another has started to take its toll on the five-time Pro Bowler.

Fortunately, Gronkowski seems to be feeling like his former self as he is slated to make his return. His entertainment opportunities are always going to be there thanks to his charismatic personality and fans can now rest easy knowing that their best player outside of quarterback Tom Brady will be suiting up next season.
