Earlier this month, Tom Brady signed a contract extension with the New England Patriots that wasn't really much of an extension at all. The new deal will make him a free agent after 2019, and the contract also states that the Patriots can't apply a franchise tag to the quarterback.

During an appearance on The Greg Hill Show on WEEI, Brady addressed that part of the pact:

“I those are some personal feelings and there’s a lot of personal conversations that I have had that really aren’t for other people’s knowledge,” Brady said. “I think what this is about is this season and dealing with this year. Beyond this year, whether it is signing for five more years, or signing a franchise tag, or not playing — none of those things need to be decided this year. I think what it was was focusing on this season and being in the right mental, emotional frame of mind to go out there and perform at my highest level.”

Brady went on to say that he has a “great” relationship with Bill Belichick and Robert Kraft.

This is definitely one of the stranger moments of Brady's 20-year tenure with the Patriots, as he is being very coy about whether or not he will actually return to New England in 2020.

Obviously, the general consensus is that Brady will end his career with the Pats, but the 42-year-old doesn't seem to be dropping any hints as to what he will do when the time comes.

Brady is coming off of a 2018 campaign in which he threw for 4,355 yards, 29 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while completing 65.8 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 97.7 en route to the Pro Bowl. Most importantly, he led the Patriots to their sixth Super Bowl title.
