New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is nearing the completion of his 18th season in the league, which raised questions about his long-term future.

Rumors has swirling stating that Brady could retire if the Patriots win Super Bowl LII on Sunday night. However, Brady quickly shot down that notion ahead of kickoff, according to Darin Gantt of Pro Football Talk.

“Yeah, you’re gonna see me playing football next year,” he said. “I don’t envision not playing. You’re at the end of the race but you’ve got your biggest mountain to climb right at the end.

“Hopefully all the lessons we’ve learned have allowed us to be at our very best for this moment and that’s what it’s going to take and that’s what we’re prepared for and that’s what I go out and expect our team to do.”

Brady has continually expressed his desire to play a few more seasons, possibly extending to his mid-40s. He is still playing at a high level coming off another strong campaign that earned him his third MVP award after finishing with an NFL-best 4,577 passing yards, third with 32 passing touchdowns, a 102.8 passer rating, and fifth with a 66.3 completion percentage.

He surpassed 300 passing yards six times while posting multiple touchdown passes 10 times along with holding a passer rating above 100 eight on eight occasions. Most importantly, he has led the Patriots to a league-best 13-3 record on their way to a third Super Bowl appearance in the last four years.

Brady has a clear desire to continue playing for at least another season that could easily extend much further if his body holds up. What should be kept in mind is that his current deal runs through the 2019 season at $44 million.
