Stephon Gilmore's tenure with the New England Patriots did not exactly get off to a good start in 2017, as he struggled throughout the season and certainly didn't live up to the first year of the five-year, $65 million contract he had signed with the Patriots that offseason.

But in 2018, Gilmore re-established himself as one of the game's best cornerbacks, playing in all 16 games and registering 45 tackles, a sack, a couple of interceptions, a pair of forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and 20 passes defended en route to a Pro Bowl appearance and a First-Team All-Pro selection.

Now that Gilmore seems to have gotten comfortable in New England, former Patriots cornerback Ty Law thinks that Gilmore is the best corner in the NFL at the moment.

“He’s the best cornerback in football right now,” Law said, according to Karen Guregian of The Boston Herald. “I didn’t see anybody out there playing any better [last season].”

Law was a fine cornerback himself, spending his first 10 NFL seasons with the Pats and making four Pro Bowls while notching First-Team All-Pro honors twice, so he knows a good defensive back when he sees one.

“He’s really confident, and he’s taken his game to the next level,” added Law. “He’s first-team All-Pro. I think he’s going to continue to do that this year. He'll be ready to roll.”

Gilmore, who played his collegiate football at the University of South Carolina, was originally selected by the Buffalo Bills with the 10th overall pick of the 2012 NFL Draft.

He spent his first five years with the Bills, making one Pro Bowl before joining the Patriots.
