New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick continues to refuse to talk about the Josh Gordon trade, which he doesn’t consider to be a done deal just yet. Apparently, that is due to a tweak in the terms of the trade which still needed to be ironed out.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the deal is now done after said tweaks, which will see the Patriots receive a seventh-round pick that now has no conditions along with Gordon from the Cleveland Browns for their fifth-rounder.

As Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk notes, the Patriots are likely to get the seventh-rounder of either the Jaguars or the Steelers which the Browns possess since Cleveland gave up their own seventh-rounder in the Jarvis Landry trade with Miami.

The removal of the condition from the pick just adds to the advantage the Patriots got in the deal with the Browns. They’ve effectively acquired one of the most talented wide receivers in the entire league for a relatively small price. If Gordon doesn’t pan out for some reason, they can move on without much regret. But if he performs anywhere close to his 2013 All-Pro level, he’ll be a huge steal.

As for the Browns, the fact that they still agreed to give up the condition on the Patriots’ deal indicates that there likely weren’t any better offers on the table for Gordon. But they still got something for him, and they can now move on after his turbulent seven-year stay in Cleveland.
