The New England Patriots have acquired wide receiver Josh Gordon in a trade with the Cleveland Browns… or have they? Despite both the Patriots and the Browns announcing the deal, as well as it being on the NFL’s transfer wire, Bill Belichick says it’s not quite done yet.

The Patriots head coach refused to answer questions from the media about his alleged “new” receiver, saying he’s going to wait until the deal is actually finalized.

“I'm not going to talk about players that are not actually, I would say, on our roster totally,” Belichick said per Austin Knoblauch of NFL.com. “When that happens, that happens. If it happens.”

Tom Pelissero of NFL Network shed more light into the delay, saying that it is related to a “tweak” in the language of the deal. The Patriots look set to receive a seventh-round pick as part of the deal. Belichick may have alluded to it in one of his comments.

“There are terms that have to be met before the trade is finalized,” he said. “And when those are completed, then we'll have a completed trade. Until they are completed, I'm not going to get into it.”

But while Belichick insists that the trade still isn’t final, no one apparently told the ones in charge of their website. Gordon is already part of the active roster, and he’s also listed as a second-string receiver on the depth chart.

Belichick might technically be correct that there is still some unfinished business between the Patriots and the Browns, but it’s more than likely that it’ll get resolved sooner rather than later.
