The New England Patriots are looking to bounce back against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 3 after a narrow defeat to the Seattle Seahawks last week. But they might have to do it without center David Andrews, who suffered a broken thumb on his snapping hand and will likely miss the Patriots’ game against the Raiders, according to Jay Glazer of Fox Sports.

The 28-year-old Andrews had surgery on the hand this week, which caused him to miss the two practices and could sideline him for a longer period. He attended the Patriots’ latest practice ahead of the game against Las Vegas, but sported a wrap on his right thumb.

Andrews, who went undrafted in the 2015 NFL Draft but found his way to the Patriots, is a team captain, winning two Super Bowls with the Pats and remains an important part of the team. After missing all of the 2019 season due to blood clots on his lungs, Andrews has played in both of New England’s games this season.

Aside from helping quarterback Cam Newton on offense, Andrews’ has also played a huge role in helping some of the younger members of the team. Left tackle Isaiah Wynn said that Andrews is the piece that holds the team together, according to Zach Cox of NESN:

“He’s (Andrews) the piece that holds it all together as the center. He’s the captain. With all his knowledge, he’s very reliable. When we don’t know something, he knows the answer to it. Just him being the key piece has been helpful and great.”

The Patriots will look to win their second game of the season against the Raiders this Sunday.
