Already missing the services of Anthony Davis, who is currently day-to-day with an adductor strain, the New Orleans Pelicans suffered another blow to their big man rotation, as Alexis Ajinca is slated to miss four to six months, as he underwent surgery on his right patellar tendon. He will likely miss the remainder of the regular season, but will have a chance to return to action this year, should his team make it to the playoffs.

The 29-year-old French international was the 20th overall pick by the then-Charlotte Bobcats, and has played for four different NBA teams. He has spent the past four seasons with the Pelicans, and despite the limited minutes he’s receiving, remains a fixture in their rotation. He owns career averages of 5.3 points and 4.5 rebounds.

Ajinca has battled numerous injuries in the past, and has not played more than 68 games in a season. He was having a solid campaign so far, and the Pelicans are hopeful he can regain his form quickly, once he’ll be healthy again.

With Ajinca out, Omer Asik will continue to see extended playing time, just like in the past two games. If there’s any good news for the Pelicans at this point, Davis is nearing a return, which will be a huge boost to them, and will not force DeMarcus Cousins to carry majority of the offensive load by himself anymore.
