Zion Williamson's status has been one of the biggest enigmas of the 2021 season. No one except for those close to the star seems to know when he'll return to action. Even the New Orleans Pelicans are out of the loop, with the way things have been reported.

During All-Star Weekend, CJ McCollum, whom the Pelicans acquired ahead of the trade deadline, revealed his lack of interactions with Zion Williamson. The ex-Blazers star revealed that ever since he was acquired by the team, he hasn't had any direct conversations with the former first overall pick.

Via Mason Ginsberg of Bourbon Street Shots and BlueWire's In The N.O. pod:

“I haven't had conversations w/ him directly. I've spoken with some people close to him & look forward to sitting down with him sooner than later. I know about as much as you do right now, but I'm gonna get to the bottom of it.”

That's certainly not a good look for both the Pelicans and Williamson. The 2019 first overall pick is expected to be the face of the franchise, with his otherworldly skills and a soft demeanor off the court. However, not even talking directly to a new teammate, even if you're recovering from injury, doesn't look good on paper.

This revelation could also fan the flames of those speculating whether Zion wants out of New Orleans. Rumors of him wanting to go to a bigger market have persisted since the start of his career. While there's no substantial evidence of being true, revelations such as this one don't help alleviate concerns about his loyalty.

With news of Zion Williamson potentially getting a second foot surgery, his status for this season is looking bleaker than ever. We may not get to see him and CJ team up on the Pelicans this season.
