The game between the Washington Capitals and the Boston Bruins on Friday was not safe from another one of Tom Wilson's familiar nasty hits, this time with Brandon Carlo being on the receiving end in the first period of the contest. Capitals head coach Peter Laviolette claimed that he witnessed the play transpire but still insisted that his team didn't do anything wrong.

“I saw the hit,” Laviolette said, via Samantha Pell of the Washington Post. “His feet were on the ice, he stayed down with everything. Just looked like a hard hit in the corner. Not exactly sure what happened, but to me, it looked like just a hit.”

Despite the Capitals enforcer's reputation for being a dirty player, the veteran right-winger still escaped the scene as he wasn't charged for a penalty by the game officials. Carlo was then taken to the hospital after the incident but it was Bruins defenseman Jarred Tinordi and center Trent Frederic who both retaliated for their teammate.

Due to the incident, the Bruins found enough motivation to finish the game as they came out on top with a 5-1 victory. With the much-needed win, the Boston-based squad improved to a 13-5-3 record while the Capitals dropped to a 13-6-4 tally.

Their upcoming games will certainly be crucial as both teams are still jockeying for the top spot in the East Division. According to Pell, Laviolette and the Capitals have yet to receive a notice from the NHL indicating their intentions to talk with Tom Wilson for his involvement in the incident.

Tom Wilson was drafted by the Capitals in 2012 and won the Stanley Cup with the team back in 2018.
