The Professional Fighters League is getting some heat after they revealed the matchups for the next fight card for Week 4 of the PFL regular season on June 13th. This event will highlight the women's flyweight and men's heavyweight divisions and the public as well as the fighters on the fight card have some major issues with the matchmaking done by the PFL.

The PFL has always been under scrutiny when it comes to their matchmaking for their PFL regular season format. All sports leagues with season formats like the NFL, NBA, NHL, and MLB come out with the schedule for the entire year before the new season starts. That is unfortunately not how the PFL conducts their regular season format and they do the matchmaking as the season progresses which has raised some eyebrows over the years.

Now, the PFL acquired Bellator MMA bringing in more fighters to their roster and while there might not have been a big microscope on the way that PFL conducted their matchmaking in the past, there certainly are many more eyes on it now. It's one thing when the fans are up in arms about it but it's another when the fighters competing in the tournament are starting to speak out about it.

Two fighters who competed and won in Week 1 of the PFL regular season spoke out about their second matchup. Undefeated fighter and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu World Champion Jena Bishop who submitted her opponent in round one called her new employers “SHADY AF” after it was announced they were pairing her up against former UFC title contender Taila Santos who is seemingly one of the favorites to win it all. This comes after the PFL announced that they paired up their most prized possession Dakota Ditcheva against Chelsea Hackett whom Bishop already defeated.

Then there's Daniel James former Bellator heavyweight fighter who was originally scheduled to face off against Tyrell Fortune in Week 1 but he had to pull out so he then had to fight former opponent Marcel Golm who he defeated for a second time which put him in second place in the standings. Now, they are pairing James up against Fortune again even though he is currently second in the standings and Fortune has yet to compete in the tournament.

“I think the PFL organization is showing a lot of favoritism for guys that they want to push and I am not here to make friends with none of them. I am here to win and I am putting myself in a position to do so. They are putting me in a position where I have to make sure I win because they have their guys that they want to pat on the back and pamper to the top but it's all good.” James expresses, “After a big win instead of giving me the guy on the card that worked hard, you give me a guy that pulled out for whatever reason instead of giving me a guy that worked his butt off.”

The PFL has prided itself on being the premier number two MMA organization behind the UFC but if it constantly shows favoritism in its matchmaking the fans as well as their fighters will be looking elsewhere. The fans are already fed up with the matchmaking and they are letting the PFL know what they think about it.

It remains to be seen if the PFL takes into account what the fans or even their fighters say and makes changes to their matchmaking for their season format in the future. However, if they want to limit the amount of scrutiny they get something will need to be done in the long term especially if they want to call themselves the clear number two organization as they claim that they are.
