In his Spring Training debut with the Philadelphia Phillies, Nick Castellanos showed that he is in midseason form. He showed that he brought his habit of untimely hits with him to Philly after signing there in free agency.

During his second plate appearance of the Phillies' game against the Toronto Blue Jays, the broadcast discussed the recent arrest of Toronto pitching coach Pete Walker after he was caught driving under the influence. Naturally, Castellanos recorded a hit. He singled to right field.

Although this pales in comparison to his infamous home run into deep left field, it's a ludicrous moment that shows Castellanos' ability to record a hit during the worst possible time during a broadcast. He showcased it numerous times last season and will probably do so again this year.

The Phillies signed Castellanos to a five-year deal after his breakout 2021 season with the Cincinnati Reds. The power-hitting he brings should be a much-needed boost to the Philadelphia offense. Along with Kyle Schwaber, he surrounds 2021 National League MVP Bryce Harper with more help on offense. Although his defense is suboptimal, he can have a positive impact on the Phils by continuing to hit at a high level.

Philadelphia went 82-80 last season and placed second in the NL East. They are looking to take advantage of the chance to compete with Harper and Cy Young Award candidate Zack Wheeler. Castellanos will need to be as good of a hitter as he was last season in order to help the Phillies snap their decade-long playoff drought.
