As one of the most athletically gifted quarterbacks to enter the NFL in the 21st century, the hype surrounding new Chicago Bears' 11th overall draft pick Justin Fields is palpable across the league. Entering the league as one of college football history's most accurate passers ever, running a 4.44 40 yard dash, and coming straight to a team that made the playoffs just a year ago will do that.

However, he'll start the season as the backup QB to Andy Dalton, according to head coach Matt Nagy. So, when will we get to see Fields take over the starting job? Let's do some investigative work.

The Bears open the season up with a difficult three game stretch – Rams, Bengals, Browns. The Bengals obviously aren’t a huge challenge, but it makes sense that Matt Nagy and Co. wouldn’t want to throw Fields into the fire against the league’s reining No. 1 defense and a fearsome Cleveland defense that has two of the best pass rushers in the league (Myles Garrett and Jadeveon Clowney).

So, barring injury to Dalton, we most likely won't see Fields, at minimum, until Week 4.

But, a divisional square-off with the lowly Lions, followed by the middling Raiders should make for an excellent spot for Justin Fields to make his pro debut. This could very well be the time for Fields to make his debut, as Dalton could very easily lose two or three of the Bears first three games against such difficult opponents, giving Nagy an easy excuse to put in the dynamic rookie.

If Chicago chooses to wait beyond Week 5, that could be a problem. The Bears next 5 opponents are as follows – Packers, Buccaneers, 49ers, Steelers, Ravens. Not an enviable spot to be put in for an NFL debut. By this point, if Dalton remains the starter and the Bears are still in playoff contention, we most likely won't see Justin Fields until the 2022 season. Because that means Dalton has beaten a TON of good teams, and the Bears would be in win-now mode.

But I would wager that that won't be the case. Dalton and the Bears will most likely either falter early on in Weeks 1-3, or some time during that aforementioned daunting 5 game stretch.

Final verdict: Fields will either make his debut in Week 4 against the Lions, or Week 12 against – surprise, surprise – the Lions. I'm putting my money on Week 4.
