Neymar was stretchered off in Paris Saint-Germain's recent game against Saint-Etienne after suffering a horror ankle injury. The forward was visibly in agony after being on the receiving end of a dangerous tackle late in the second half. The PSG medical staff rushed to the pitch and stretchered him off as his teammates watched in concern.

While the severity of the injury is yet to be confirmed, the sight of Neymar leaving the stadium in crutches is more worrying than optimistic. PSG coach Mauricio Pochettino spoke to reporters after the match and was unable to go into detail regarding the injury. Via Goal:

“For the moment there is nothing to say. He felt pain from the twist of his ankle. Tomorrow, he will take exams and we will know a little more about his injury.”

Neymar himself took to Instagram after the match to send a message to his supporters. The message was one of optimism as the 29-year-old acknowledged yet another setback in his career, saying:

“Unfortunately, these setbacks are a part of an athlete’s life. Now you have to raise your head and move on. I will come back better and stronger.”

In more positive news for PSG fans, the Paris side ultimately secured a 3-1 victory with two goals from Marquinhos and a goal from Angel Di Maria. Lionel Messi continues to rediscover his form, and he picked up assists for all three of the goals. Sergio Ramos also made his long-awaited debut and completed a full 90 minutes. However, despite this victory and the good news regarding their big summer signings, Neymar's injury is definitely a sour note to what was looking like a good night for PSG.
