At one time, Aldon Smith appeared poised to become the next great outside linebacker in the NFL. Now, he’s on the verge of becoming the latest high-profile bust, desperate to get his child support reduced because he can’t make the payments.

He is now behind close to $79,000 in payments.

“I have had no income since November 2015,” Smith states in court docs obtained by TMZ Sports … “I have done my best to stay current, but without an income, I have fallen behind.”

Smith was ordered to make child support payments of $9,007 a month back in 2013 when he was still with the San Francisco 49ers. At the time, he was still playing under his rookie contract (four-years, $14.38 million); the 49ers had selected him with the seventh pick of the 2011 NFL Draft.

Off-field issues resulted in a nine-game suspension while he was still with the 49ers in 2014. But the 49ers had enough of his issues and cut him loose prior to the 2015 season. The Oakland Raiders picked him up in early September and signed him to an $8 million contract for the season.

But his off-field problems caught up with him again and he was suspended in November due to vandalism, DUI, and hit and run charges stemming from an August 2015 incident.

So, while he has not been receiving an income since 2015 like he said, according to his contracts, he has made around $22 million between his time with the 49ers and Raiders. Subtract the $4.7 million in forfeited pay and one fine and that is still over $17 million.

And he says he’s broke. But according to TMZ Sports, he’s still living the life and is simply blowing off his child support.

Hopefully, the judge doesn’t cut him any slack. But it would be nice if the NFL were to reinstate him long enough for him to pay up.
