Derek Carr has occupied the QB1 spot for the Las Vegas Raiders since 2014. While they've only made the postseason once since then and he couldn't even play in it because of an injury in 2016, Carr has been one of the lone bright spots in this team.

Head coach Jon Gruden spoke on Carr's impact on the Raiders' offense over the years and had nothing but good things to say about the veteran.

“Derek is very underestimated. He doesn’t get much credit for how good he’s playing, but he completes a lot of passes. He changes plays at the line of scrimmage. He’s starting to make more and more plays with his legs now,” Gruden said, via PFT. “We’ve put some pretty good players around Derek. I think it shows.”

The Raiders are always venturing into the possibility of bringing in another quarterback each and every offseason but Carr still remains their number one option. The 30-year-old is coming off a tremendous 2020 campaign, throwing for a career-high 4,103 yards while also converting 27 TDs. Carr also tossed nine interceptions.

The former Fresno State standout was also getting it done with his legs, literally doubling his output from 2019 in rushing yards. Despite the Raiders finishing outside a playoff spot once again, he was clearly not the problem. The defense was very poor, sitting 30th in the NFL in points allowed and 25th in yards conceded.

Carr will be looking to continue his impressive play in 2021 and hopefully, the Raiders can improve immensely on the opposite side of the ball.
