Jon Gruden and the Oakland Raiders have been one of the worst teams in the NFL throughout the first six weeks of the 2018 NFL season. They are 1-5 at this point in the year and have not looked good on either side of the football. That kind of start has fans and some in the media talking about the possibility that the Raiders could be tanking this season.

In a press conference shared by NBC Sports, Gruden made it clear that the Raiders are not tanking and are not happy with anyone who insinuates that.

“We're not getting up 4 o'clock in the morning to tank. Ain't nobody tanking it.”

Immediately following the news that Gruden had decided to leave the broadcasting booth to join the Raiders, there was a lot of excitement in Oakland. Just two short years ago, the Raiders were one of the top up-and-coming teams in the league. Last season, the Raiders suffered through a disappointing year.

Gruden was not necessarily considered to be the “savior” of the Raiders, but he was expected to get the offense back on track.

Derek Carr and company have looked rough once again this season. They have not been able to get anything going consistently and there are quite a few question marks about whether they have the right personnel in place. Amari Cooper has even been mentioned in trade rumors.

Defensively, the Raiders have too many problems to discuss in this article. Khalil Mack being traded before the 2018 season was a huge loss for Oakland. He was the heart and soul of their defense and is without question one of the most lethal defenders in the entire NFL.

All of that being said, the Raiders are not tanking, they're just not a good football team. Gruden may not have gotten them back on track this season, but he still has confidence in the team's future.
