It has been nearly a decade since Jon Gruden last held a head coach job in the NFL, which has brought forth a renewed sense of energy to his second stint back with the Oakland Raiders. It is a prime opportunity in front of him to truly shape the team in his manner and identity.

Throughout his career, Gruden has utilized a brash coaching style with a lot of energy to express himself. Offseason addition Jordy Nelson has quickly noticed the type of exuberant energy that his head coach uses to get his messages across to the team on the field (h/t Silver and Black Pride).

“The energy level that [Gruden] brings is amazing,” Nelson said on Tuesday. “And somehow I think he’s consistent with it day-in and day-out, which is pretty impressive. That’s fun and I think we’ll fed off of that. I think that’s kind of why we’re successful today and our tempo and what we were able to accomplish today, because he’s bringing the energy and it feeds down to the rest of us.”

This is a part of the reason why many players have garnered a great deal of respect and admiration for Gruden over the years. He is a highly passionate coach that has true love for the game of football. It is the type of energy that the team could feed off of to get that extra edge on the field.

The fact that Nelson has already taken notice of it this early in minicamp speaks to how committed that Gruden is already to pushing the franchise back in the right direction. He has the task of getting the Raiders back into the playoffs while potentially competing for a Super Bowl.

That is a tall task to ask but his strong coaching style appears to be making an impact on his players that could potentially help Oakland translate that into plenty of success in the 2018 season.
