The Las Vegas Raiders organization has released a statement on wide receiver Henry Ruggs III, who was charged with DUI resulting in death after reportedly causing a fatal car accident on Tuesday.

“The Raiders are aware of an accident involving Henry Ruggs III that occurred this morning in Las Vegas. We are devastated by the loss of life and our thoughts and prayers go out to the victim's family. We are in the process of gathering information and will have no further comment at this time.”

Ruggs III was involved in a car wreck that left one person dead inside a flaming Toyota. According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, officers responded to a collision involving a Chevrolet Corvette (driving by Ruggs III) and a Toyota RAV4, which was on fire. A deceased woman was found inside the Toyota.

A preliminary investigation has indicated that the front of Ruggs III's vehicle crashed into the read of the RAV4.

“The driver of the Chevrolet, identified as 22-year-old Henry Ruggs III, remained on scene and showed signs of impairment,” the police statement said. “He was transported to UMC hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Ruggs will be charged with DUI resulting in death. This is an ongoing investigation.”

A woman riding with Ruggs III was also transported to the hospital.

The Raiders wideout could face two to 20 years in prison.

The Raiders (5-2), coming off a bye week, reported back to team headquarters on Monday, then had an off-day on Tuesday. They face the New York Giants (2-6) in Week 9.

Las Vegas selected Ruggs, out of Alabama, with the No. 12 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. The 22-year old has 24 catches for 469 yards and two touchdowns this season.
