The Oakland Raiders addressed their pass rush needs with the addition of defensive end Clelin Ferrell in the 2019 NFL Draft. Defensive coordinator Paul Guenther is convinced that he is the right man for the job.

The decision to take Ferrell with the fourth overall pick in the draft raised plenty of questions. According to Jimmy Durkin of The Athletic, Guenther is confident that he is the right man for the job:

He saw the Raiders invest three of their four picks in the top 35 of the draft on defensive players, including taking defensive end Clelin Ferrell — “exactly what I’m looking for,” Guenther said — with the fourth overall pick.

It is encouraging to see that Guenther has no shortage of hope for Ferrell's future. The Raiders created a serious void in the pass-rushing department after parting ways with edge rusher Khalil Mack last offseason. As a result, they generated plenty of hype when they entered the draft with three picks in the first round. Oakland has since caught some of flak for their underwhelming first pick, however, it is clear that he has already made quite the impression on his new coach.

Ferrell enjoyed an illustrious college career at Clemson. Despite his impressive resume, he was not considered to be among the top defensive prospects leading up to the draft. Regardless, the rookie will be tasked with leading a potential resurgence on the edge in 2019. More importantly, he has continued to justify the pick in the eyes Guenther and will have an opportunity to prove the doubters wrong moving forward.
