The Los Angeles Rams are looking to usher in a new era at SoFi Stadium in style against the Dallas Cowboys for the NFC West club's 2020 NFL season opener. Any hope of a potential resurgence will need to begin under center with Jared Goff.

Goff is coming off an underwhelming 2019 campaign as the offense took a major step back. According to Michael Silver of NFL.com, he admits it was quite the wake-up call:

“There were a lot of things that I’ve learned from last season that I know I’m better from,” Goff said. “And sometimes you need, you know, a punch in the face, a kick in the face, like, ‘Oh man, — I can be better than that.’ [But] we didn’t have a catastrophe of a year, and that’s what it seems to be thought of often when you’re coming off a really good year.

There is certainly plenty of truth to Goff's comments considering the Rams were fresh off a Super Bowl run in 2018-19. It is encouraging to see that he seems to have used the rough outing as a motivating factor for this season.

Goff's play was hardly the only factor that attributed to the disappointing season in Los Angeles. Regardless, he has certainly heard all the doubt regarding his status as a bona fide franchise quarterback after receiving his lucrative four-year extension last offseason.

With running back Todd Gurley gone, Goff now serves as the face of head coach Sean McVay's offense. The onus will fall on him to get this group back to where it was following the coach's immediate arrival.
