The legacy of Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford in the NFL was among the more notable talking points heading into Super Bowl 56. Following his heroics in leading the Rams to their second Super Bowl title, there is now much talk on whether he is now a Hall of Fame quarterback.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Richard Sherman jump-started this debate earlier in the week. The veteran defensive back noted on Twitter that as Stafford has not won prestigious honors such as the NFL MVP award and has also not been selected to a single All-Pro team in his career, he is, at the moment, not deserving of an induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Former New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman is taking the other side of this debate by noting that Stafford has a resume that is already Hall of Fame worthy.

“50,000 pass yards, [Super Bowl] first year with capable team,” Edelman said. “Give this man his flowers, he’s a HOF’er… Arm talent is some of the best we’ve seen.”

Overall, Stafford’s trophy case may not be stacked with individual honors after another like of some of his quarterback peers in the NFL today. Still, he has achieved numerous notable feats over the course of his career so far, which include being the fastest quarterback in NFL history to reach 45,000 passing yards and also being the seventh passer ever to record at least 50 touchdown passes in a single campaign (50 in 2021), including the playoffs.

Stafford still has plenty of years left in his NFL career, and he should continue to bolster his Pro Football Hall of Fame resume along the way.
