Matthew Stafford has had quite an impressive season in his debut campaign with the Los Angeles Rams, and he will have an opportunity to make history in Super Bowl 56 against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Stafford’s play in the regular season sure lived up to the expectations. He set the Rams franchise record for the most passing yards in a season (4,886) and also tied longtime quarterback Kurt Warner (41 in 1999) for the most touchdown passes in a season in franchise history.

Overall, Stafford has carried over his keen play from the regular season into the playoffs.

Heading into Super Bowl 56, Stafford sits at 5,791 passing yards in 20 total games played so far this season, including the playoffs. If he can tally for at least 209 passing yards against the Bengals, he would then become the sixth player ever to record at least 6,000 such yards in a single campaign. To date, Dan Marino (1984), Tom Brady (2011), Eli Manning (2011), Drew Brees (2011) and Peyton Manning (2013) are the only players in NFL history to reach this feat.

More so, Stafford is a mere three passing touchdowns away from reaching 50 for his campaign, including the playoffs. Overall, only six players have ever notched at least 50 touchdown passes in an entire season, which includes now-former Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady (2007, 2020).

A Super Bowl win coupled with these two possible feats sure would bolster Stafford’s Pro Football Hall of Fame resume.
