The Los Angeles Rams have ushered in some major changes heading into the 2020 NFL season. As a result, this has put a spotlight on quarterback Jared Goff to lead a potential resurgence at the new SoFi Stadium.

Despite putting up some career numbers, Goff struggled to find his rhythm during the 2019 campaign. Michael Lombardi of The Athletic suggests that he must get back to where he was in 2018 when he was much more efficient with the deep ball:

“The Rams ranked 26th in the NFL in throws over 20 yards, completing them at a 30 percent completion rate and having a passer rating of 60 on these throws. The Rams offense needs explosive plays down the field, and this decline by Goff was one of the reasons the offense suffered. In 2018, Goff had a 104.5 rating on these types of throws and the Rams ranked 9th overall.”

The regression of the Rams offense was easily one of the most perplexing storylines last season. After all, Goff had led quite the revival on offense alongside head coach Sean McVay the previous two seasons, one of which resulted in a trip to the Super Bowl to cap off 2018. Unfortunately, this group was clearly a shell of its former self due to a lack of an identity last season.

The prospect of Goff letting loose with the deep ball could be challenging since the Rams traded wide receiver Brandin Cooks to the Houston Texans this offseason. Although they are confident that Josh Reynolds and Van Jefferson can help fill the void in the receiving corps, it remains to be seen which will emerge as a bona fide threat downfield.
