The Baltimore Ravens would like to keep their defense intact for next season and that could mean that Matthew Judon gets the franchise tag. According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, Baltimore plans on using their franchise tag on Judon.

After being selected in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft, Judon began his career as a rotational pass rusher in Baltimore's defense. However, he's become a prominent member of the defense in the last three seasons with the Ravens.

The fourth-year veteran out of Grand Valley State saved the best season of his career for the final year of his rookie contract. In his first season starting in all 16 games, Judon recorded a career-high 9.5 sacks, 33 quarterback hits, and four forced fumbles in 2019.

Last offseason, the Ravens lost Za'Darius Smith in free agency to the Green Bay Packers. With the Packers, Smith notched a career-best 13.5 sacks, 37 quarterback hits, and a forced fumble this season.

Provided that, the Ravens can't afford to lose another premier edge rusher to free agency. Even though Baltimore would like to get a long-term deal done, they may need to use their franchise tag on Judon.

Judon, who turns 28-years-old this year, still has room to grow as a pass rusher in the NFL. Therefore, the Ravens would like to keep him around as long as they possibly can.

All teams in the NFL have until March 12 to decide if they want to use the franchise tag. Before that date arrives, it wouldn't come as a surprise if Judon receives the tag from the Ravens.
