The Baltimore Ravens had a bit of a surprise in store for the fan base Friday, reportedly trading Pro Bowl offensive tackle Orlando Brown Jr. to the Kansas City Chiefs.

As it so happens, the Ravens already have a replacement lined up.

Jamison Hensley of ESPN reported Baltimore is expected to sign former Pittsburgh Steelers offensive tackle Alejandro Villanueva, who met with the Ravens on Thursday. Hensley added the deal is not expected to become official until after next week's NFL draft.

Terms of the deal are unknown, but the Brown deal makes a bit more sense now with Villanueva expected to take over one of the tackle spots.

Villanueva is a very strong replacement for Brown. He received a 74.6 overall grade from Pro Football Focus last season and was named to the Pro Bowl in both 2017 and 2018. He adds a strong pass-blocking presence, though will surely be relied upon to pave lanes in a run-heavy scheme.

Still, it remains to be seen whether Villanueva's arrival makes the Brown trade much of a win for the Ravens.

Baltimore did not make much progress in extension talks with Brown, who is currently slated to be a free agent after the 2021 season. As such, the Ravens got another first-round pick from Kansas City, with additional draft capital in 2021 and 2022.

However, Baltimore had to send a 2021 second-round pick to Kansas City in order to complete the deal, which is one of the more puzzling aspects of the deal. Plus, Brown–just 23 years old–would seemingly have more value as a rising star at his position.

Nevertheless, the Ravens will count on Villanueva to maintain his consistently strong play as he heads elsewhere in the AFC North.
